Myrrh essential oil (CT Commiphora myrrha)
Myrrh is a tree that grows in the arid regions of northeastern Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. Myrrh is mentioned in Egyptian papyri, the Vedas, the Old and New Testaments, the Koran, Greek and Roman writings. During the rainy season, a thick resin oozes from the cut bark, from which the essential oil is distilled.
In cosmetics, it is used in lotions and creams for the care of sensitive, dry, parched and cracked skin. In aromatherapy, it is used to treat minor wounds, to relieve skin inflammation and for respiratory problems. Its scent has a calming effect, which is why it is often used in meditation.
