Description

Pine essential oil (Pinus sylvestris)

Young pine needles are used in folk medicine to prepare syrup, potions and baths to relieve coughs, exhaustion and poor circulation. Native Americans use them to fight scurvy, and they stuff hats with the needles to repel lice and fleas. In Slovenia, pine essential oil is indispensable in winter. Not only does pine conjure up a more pleasant (festive) atmosphere with its scent, but it also promotes a good mood.

The content of a large amount of α-pinene in the oil has a beneficial effect on the respiratory system and helps with expectoration. Through massages and compresses, pine is used to alleviate problems in the lower back and joints. Pine is used to make perfumes, in massages and in oil baths.
