Star anise essential oil (CT Illicium verum)
Star anise originates from Far Asia and is an indispensable spice in various Asian dishes and an important plant in traditional Chinese medicine. It is interesting for botanists, as it is evolutionarily one of the oldest plants in the world. Compared to common (garden) anise, it has a high content of anethole, which gives it a characteristic, strong smell.
In aromatherapy, its oil is recommended for classic inhalations for respiratory problems, for calming and for sleep disorders. As a compress, it relieves pain in the abdomen and stomach area.
